MICHIGAN SPORTSMAN
AGAINST HUNGER
Hunters & Processors Feeding Michigan Families
Since 1991, Michigan Sportsmen Against Hunger has connected hunters, landowners, wild game processors and community food organizations to turn Michigan’s renewable wildlife resource into nutritious meals.
How the Program Works
1. Hunters Donate
A hunter brings a legally harvested deer to a participating processor and identifies it as an MSAH donation.
2. Processors Prepare
Participating processors turn the donated deer into packaged ground venison.
3. Local Partners Distribute
Food banks, pantries and meal programs receive the venison for families in their communities.
4. Donors Make It Possible
Private gifts, grants, and sponsors help pay processing costs so the venison can be provided at no cost to recipient organizations.
The Need is Real
According to the 2022 Feeding America Michigan Hunger Study:
- 1,423,000 people are food insecure in Michigan (14.2% of the population)
- 378,040 children are food insecure (17.9% of the child population)
- 9.6% are older adults (50–59)
- 6.5% are age 60 and older
THE MSAH MISSION
To connect hunters, processors and charitable organizations to provide nutritious venison to Michigan communities in need.
WHOLE DEER DONATIONS
Hunters can donate a legally harvested deer through a participating processor at no cost to the hunter.
Our Impact
2,700+ deer donated
100,000+ lbs. of venison distributed
400,000+ meals provided
$0.56 average cost per serving
Every $100 donated provides about 180 servings.
Venison is distributed through food banks, pantries, shelters and meal programs across Michigan to help fight hunger.
Three Ways to Help
1. DONATE A DEER
Bring a legally harvested deer to a participating processor and identify it as an MSAH donation.
2. MAKE A GIFT
Your financial support helps cover processing costs so more venison can be provided to food banks, pantries and meal programs.
3. BUILD A PARTNERSHIP
Sponsor processing, help organize doe hunting events, or support coordinated late-season hunts with landowners, hunters, processors and local charities.
